RRC: Unlocking Generative Reward Models in LLM Reinforcement Learning via Ranking-Based Reward Construction

Recent advances in reward modeling show a paradigm shift from discriminative reward models to generative reward models. However, despite their strong capabilities in response ranking, generative reward models have not realized their potential in reinforcement learning (RL). Our analysis reveals that this limitation arises from a mismatch between the comparative nature of generative reward modeling and the scalar scoring paradigm adopted by existing RL algorithms. To bridge this gap, we propose a Ranking-based Reward Construction (RRC) approach, which enables generative reward models to provide more effective RL learning signals by deriving rewards from relative preference rankings. RRC introduces two complementary strategies: self-competitive ranking, which exploits comparisons among sampled responses, and anchor-guided ranking, which enables scalable ranking-based reward construction with a small set of reference responses. Experiments across open-ended chat and reasoning benchmarks demonstrate that RRC substantially improves RL training with generative reward models, achieving consistent gains over existing reward construction approaches. Our code can be found at https://github.com/wangclnlp/RRC.

FlowCTS: On-policy Continuous Trajectory Supervision of Flow Models

While on-policy distillation (OPD) effectively addresses sparse rewards and exposure bias in large language model post-training, its extension to flow models remains underexplored. To this end, we propose Flow Continuous Trajectory Supervision (FlowCTS), which matches subsequent student and reference trajectories initialized from the same student-visited state. Using the integral relation between trajectories and velocity fields, we derive a temporally weighted velocity-matching upper bound and discretize it into practical objectives parameterized by the number of supervision steps. Under a multi-reference setup, single-state FlowCTS-OPD outperforms vanilla KL-based OPD with faster convergence. FlowCTS-OPD improves GenEval from 0.90 to 0.93, OCR from 0.90 to 0.92, and PickScore from 22.75 to 23.06, while outperforming a mixed-reward RL baseline across all target metrics. Further analysis reveals a clear temporal supervision mismatch in vanilla KL-based OPD arising from its auxiliary SDE transition kernels. Beyond on-policy setting,FlowCTS also consistently outperforms vanilla SFT , particularly on OCR, while increasing supervision steps exhibit a trade-off between richer trajectory information and greater optimization difficulty.

MemoSight: Unifying Context Compression and Multi Token Prediction for Reasoning Acceleration

While Chain-of-thought (CoT) reasoning enables LLMs to solve challenging reasoning problems, as KV cache grows linearly with the number of generated tokens, CoT reasoning faces scaling issues in terms of speed and memory usage. In this work, we propose MemoSight (Memory-Foresight-based reasoning), a unified framework that integrates both context compression and multi-token prediction to mitigate the efficiency issues while maintaining CoT reasoning performance. Our framework adopts the same minimalist design for both context compression and multi-token prediction via special tokens and their corresponding position layout tailored to each token type. Comprehensive experiments on four reasoning benchmarks demonstrate that MemoSight reduces the KV cache footprint by up to 66% and accelerates inference by 1.56x, while outperforming existing CoT compression methods.
