Dataset Distillation Based on Saliency-Driven Prototype Alignment

Dataset distillation aims to synthesize compact datasets that can approximate the performance of full-data training while significantly reducing computational and storage costs. However, diffusion-based distillation methods often struggle to preserve structural coherence and generalization, especially in visually complex domains. This issue often stems from latent prototypes that are weakly aligned with class-discriminative regions and contaminated by irrelevant background, thereby degrading generation quality and generalization. To address this limitation, we propose a saliency-driven distillation framework that constructs class-discriminative latent prototypes to enhance representativeness and generalization. The framework proceeds in two stages: (1) ensemble Grad-CAM++ saliency is used to construct prototypes emphasizing class-discriminative regions, and (2) hard-prototype refinement is then applied to construct challenging yet class-consistent prototypes, thereby enhancing discriminability and diversity. Importantly, the diffusion backbones (e.g., LDM and DiT) remain frozen; only lightweight classifiers used for saliency extraction are trained. Extensive experiments across multiple benchmarks demonstrate consistent performance improvements over strong baselines. Code will be released.

HumAIN: Human-Aware Implicit Social Robot Navigation

Effective social robot navigation requires sensitivity to human behavior, often revealed through subtle skeletal cues like gait and orientation. We present Human-Aware Implicit Social Robot Navigation (HumAIN), a novel framework that fuses implicit social cues directly into the planning loop via knowledge distillation. We first employ a transformer-based teacher model that fuses rich multi-modal inputs, including historic images, skeletal keypoints, robot state, and a robot's target goal, to learn robust, human-aware representations for the robot's future trajectory planning. To enable real-time deployment, we then distill this knowledge into a lightweight student model. By optimizing for both trajectory reconstruction and latent feature alignment with the teacher, the student learns to infer complex social dynamics from minimal inputs. Bridging the prediction-planning gap with an efficient distilled architecture, our method enables robots to reason about human behavior in a manner that is adaptive, robust, and socially compliant. We validate HumAIN through extensive experiments, where it improves trajectory prediction metrics by an average of 29.8% across all metrics compared to state-of-the-art baselines. These results highlight the benefit of using implicit, whole-body cues to achieve human-like navigation awareness on resource-constrained platforms.

A Multihead Continual Learning Framework for Fine-Grained Fashion Image Retrieval with Contrastive Learning and Exponential Moving Average Distillation

Most fine-grained fashion image retrieval (FIR) methods assume a static setting, requiring full retraining when new attributes appear, which is costly and impractical for dynamic scenarios. Although pretrained models support zero-shot inference, their accuracy drops without supervision, and no prior work explores class-incremental learning (CIL) for fine-grained FIR. We propose a multihead continual learning framework for fine-grained fashion image retrieval with contrastive learning and exponential moving average (EMA) distillation (MCL-FIR). MCL-FIR adopts a multi-head design to accommodate evolving classes across increments, reformulates triplet inputs into doublets with InfoNCE for simpler and more effective training, and employs EMA distillation for efficient knowledge transfer. Experiments across four datasets demonstrate that, beyond its scalability, MCL-FIR achieves a strong balance between efficiency and accuracy. It significantly outperforms CIL baselines under similar training cost, and compared with static methods, it delivers comparable performance while using only about 30% of the training cost. The source code is publicly available in https://github.com/Dr-LingXiao/MCL-FIR.
